IDENTEC SOLUTIONS and PSION TEKLOGIX join forces
in RFID
Mobility Systems
IDENTEC SOLUTIONS (www.identecsolutions.com)
and PSION TEKLOGIX (www.psionteklogix.com)—a
global provider of mobile computing and wireless
data collection solutions—announced that they are
joining forces to offer an optimized portable RFID
(Radio Frequency IDentification) solution to the
Distribution and Logistics Industries.
Combining its know-how and its flexibility in
the data capture industry, PSION TEKLOGIX has integrated
IDENTEC SOLUTIONS´ mobile Long Range RFID readers
(i-CARD CF, i-CARD 3) into a selection of its handheld
terminals (in particular the Workabout Pro). IDENTEC
SOLUTIONS’ ILR (Intelligent Long Range) technology
and Psion Teklogix’ mobile computing products offer
a rugged, fully integrated product range of mobile
RFID readers and transponders combined with scanning,
imaging and wireless communication options.
This comprehensive offering targets the needs
of the Logistics and Distribution Industries, from
temperature monitoring and vehicle tracking to container
management. This offering is also very well adapted
to other industries, such as Pharmaceutical, making
all aspects of the supply chain more effective and
efficient.
“Psion Teklogix is delighted to combine our mobility
solutions expertise with IDENTEC SOLUTIONS’ long
range RFID infrastructure,” says Jacky Lecuivre,
Senior Vice President of Psion Teklogix EMEA. “This
partnership will enable us to provide our customers
with high-value RFID solutions for Logistics, Distribution
and other specific markets.”

Quality Assurance
Quality, pricing and deadlines — those are the
main parameters by which our customers measure us.
Quality as a measure of how our products and services
live up to expectations, pricing together with implementation
as a measure of the profitability of an investment,
and deadlines as the basis for planning the realization
of specific targets. All three elements are tightly
interwoven, and it is no surprise that these three
elements are at the heart of our quality statement:
“IDENTEC SOLUTIONS’ goal is to provide the customer
with products and services at reasonable prices
and in the quantity and quality expected. The resulting
expectations and requirements, as well as various
contractual technical, economical and scheduling
agreements are met to the customer’s fullest satisfaction.”
The Department of Operations, with its various
responsibilities—procurement, production scheduling
and control, testing, repairs, quality control and
customer service—is faced with these three parameters
on a daily basis. For several weeks now, dramatic
changes have been in the works, especially where
deadlines are concerned. Delivery times of 25 weeks
for some of the components required in the manufacture
of our products is not unusual at the moment. Nevertheless,
we have been able to take some measures to prevent
long lead times by arranging some time ago for larger
blanket orders with our suppliers. This now allows
for relatively shorter delivery times for our products.
Just the same, we encourage our customers to
take this difficult procurement situation into consideration
and to plan for their requirements well ahead of
time and to order at least four months prior to
a rollout. Timely submission of orders will ensure
timely delivery.

TRADE SHOWS
g
CeBIT 2006, Hanover, March 9-15, 2006
Huge Success for IDENTEC SOLUTIONS
For the first time in its 20-year history, attendance
at the CeBIT vastly exceeded the expectations of
the 6262 exhibitors, with 450,000 visitors over
the course of the show.
The area specially designated for RFID was an
outstanding venue for meeting people interested
in the technology, for discussing concrete projects
and for making contact with endusers and business
partners. Our customers, partners and even the media
were impressed with IDENTEC SOLUTIONS’ new products.
The i-CARD CF and the i-HUB (an RFID hub which manages
up to eight read/write modules and supports readers
for both active and passive EPC–compatible tags)
were the center of attention.
All in all, the CeBIT tradeshow was a very successful
experience for IDENTEC SOLUTIONS.

RFID World Trade Show in Dallas, Texas,
February 28-March 1, 2006
IDENTEC SOLUTIONS enjoyed a productive and rewarding
event at the RFID World Show in Dallas. The event
was well attended, especially by CFO’s, which leads
us to believe that the RFID industry is firmly entrenched
and that we can expect stronger growth this year
than in previous years.
IDENTEC SOLUTIONS was well represented; we showcased
our latest technological innovations including the
i-Q8HR (ruggedized tag) and the
i-CARD CF (compact flash card). People were most
excited to see the McKesson (Fortune 100) video
highlighting our new pick-to-light pharmaceutical
solution (visit IDENTEC SOLUTIONS’ website at
www.identecsolutions.com
to view this video).
Dallas continues to be the hub of RFID activity
for North America.

Transparency in Transport Chain
Monitoring with RFID and GPRS
In order to provide transparency in the transport
chain and to accurately monitor the temperature
of shipments between two plants, a global leader
in the development, manufacture and distribution
of high quality products for professional customers
in Construction and Building Maintenance implements
a combination of long range RFID technology with
temperature monitoring and a GPRS link-up.
The Track & Trace systems currently in use are
based primarily on manual bar code scanning of the
goods at defined locations. The data is recorded
in a variety of IT systems throughout the transport
chain. The enormity of communication barriers between
the various information systems render the global
administration of real-time data transmission almost
impossible. For example, transmission of sensor
data such as real-time temperature readings during
transport is not possible with the current system.
A combination of RFID and GPRS (which transmits
the location data to a central platform and administers
and monitors it) ensures location of goods and safeguarding
of temperature during transport. RFID allows recording
of transported goods and complete, uninterrupted
temperature monitoring of the goods in real time,
without human intervention. If temperatures should
exceed set limits, action can be taken immediately
and damaged goods can be removed.
GPRS technology allows data transmission—independent
of the Supply Chain partner’s IT infrastructure—to
central software components, which, after interpreting
the data, pass it on to the partners for additional
processing.

City of Vancouver, Canada prepares for 2010 Winter Olympics with
RFID
Coast Mountain Bus Company, a subsidiary of Translink
(Greater Vancouver’s transportation authority),
serves over two million residents in the city of
Vancouver, BC. IDENTEC SOLUTIONS assists Coast Mountain
Bus to provide service to these residents and to
track high-value fare boxes, cashboxes and buses.
IDENTEC SOLUTIONS active tags are currently being
deployed across a fleet of over 1,200 buses and
over 1,200 pieces of revenue collection equipment
spread across six bus terminals, which represents
over $20 Million dollars in mission-critical assets.
This full system deployment is a direct result of
the success of a pilot project at the Burnaby Transit
Center, which validated the success criteria and
exceeded Coast Mountain Bus Company’s expectations.
Furthermore, the pilot proved the true system capabilities
in the actual working environment in real life conditions.
The tags are also used to track and manage the movement
of key overhaul components (engines, differentials,
etc) at the Burnaby Transit Centre, to improve the
rebuild time of revenue vehicles so that they become
readily available to the general public.
Using IDENTEC SOLUTIONS’ technology has resulted
in driving top-line revenues while lowering operating
costs for Coast Mountain Bus Company through inventory-accurate
updates in real time.
This expansive public transit organization is
experiencing rapid growth as Coast Mountain Bus
is slated to introduce 300 new buses to its fleet
to support sufficient capacity to serve the demands
of Canada’s second largest city and the upcoming
2010 Winter Olympics.
